To reach the town of Dorado from San Juan Airport (SJU), you will drive approximately 18 miles west, which typically takes 30 to 35 minutes in light traffic—making it a quick transfer for Paradise Villas guests.

Turn-by-Turn Directions to Dorado Town Center

  1. Exit the Airport (SJU): Follow the signs to exit the airport on the right-hand side onto PR-26 West (Expreso Román Baldorioty de Castro) heading toward San Juan.

  2. Stay on PR-26 West: Continue for about 3 miles.

  3. Merge Toward Bayamón: Take the exit on the right toward Bayamón, which will lead you through the Minillas Tunnel.

  4. Connect to PR-22 West: After exiting the tunnel, stay in the center lane. In approximately one mile, the highway will divide; stay to the right and follow the signs for Bayamón / PR-22 West (Autopista José de Diego).

  5. Stay on PR-22 toward Arecibo: Continue in the center lane for another 2 miles until the highway divides again. Stay to the right, following the signs for PR-22 West toward Arecibo.

  6. Pass the Buchanan Toll Plaza: You will continue straight for approximately 10 miles, passing through the Buchanan Toll Plaza and the Toa Baja Toll Plaza.

  7. Take Exit 24: After the Toa Baja toll, look for Exit 24 (labeled Dorado / PR-693 / PR-659).

  8. Enter Dorado: Stay to the right as you exit. This will lead you to a roundabout; follow the signs for PR-693 North, which will take you directly into the Dorado town center and onward to Paradise Villas accommodations.

Key Navigation Tips

  • Toll Requirements: PR-22 is an electronic toll road. Ensure your rental car has an AutoExpreso transponder, as there are no longer cash lanes available.

  • Rush Hour (El Tapón): Traffic moving west from San Juan is heaviest between 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM. During these hours, the commute can take significantly longer than 35 minutes.

  • Coastal Alternative: For a more scenic route that avoids some highway traffic, you can also use PR-165, which runs parallel to the coast and connects to the Dorado area—ideal for Paradise Villas vacationers who prefer a leisurely drive.
